Ezekiel was given a unique vision of Heaven’s galaxy shaped chariot. This chariot carried the presence of God resting above and upon it, a platform of four Cherubim creatures, each lifting two wings upward to cover God’s face while joining one wingtip to another as if constructing a fence or veil.
Ezekiel described an interesting aspect of the chariot’s structure by focusing on the four wheels. Each wheel’s shape is gyroscopic, a ‘wheel in the middle of the wheel’, high and grand, coupled to the side of each four faced Cherub creature.
Ezekiel 10:9-10 KJV And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone. (10) And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel.
This unusual vision of the ‘Galaxy Chariot’ and its cherubic wheels is presented to us without explanation. It’s as if this vision was waiting for the Hubble telescope to be launched on Apri 24, 1990 from the Space Shuttle Discovery, soon accompanied by a revolution in astrophysics as scientists began viewing its high res images from space.
Some of the discoveries Hubble Telescope disclosed over the past 20 years reveal the majesty of God’s created universe.
Gravity holds the spinning spiral arms of a galaxy bound to a central point. This central point is called a ‘black hole’ from which nothing can escape, neither light, particles, or electromagnetic radiation (radio waves). Newtonian mathematics break down to describe the unknowable reason and infinite force of a black hole. Einstein was aware of this unknowable obstacle, bringing his own mathematics of relativity into impossibility.
Hubble reversed the theory of decaying entropy. The universe is not collapsing! In fact, it is expanding and at a fast rate. The role of so-called dark energy has mystified both astrophysicists and those hunting the Higgs-Boson particle. Something must be causing the universe to expand and grow. Something must be causing atomic structures to bind their particles together in ranodomized subatomic orbits. But what is it?
Deeper star fields of light have been illuminated, revealing far away ancient galaxies and light spectrum previously not visible. Even though Hubble can see this light, it does not mean the light source continues to exist. It takes a long time for light to travel light-year distances in a universe that is older and bigger than anyone previously thought.
Galaxies rotate like children’s windswept pinwheels, albeit at axial revolutions that take millions of years to complete. Our own Milky Way galaxy completes one pinwheel cycle every 200 million years at a spin rate of 168 miles per second, a colossal diameter of 100 million light years.
Gravity causes spiral arms to flatten out much like a whirling pizza dough ball flattens while being tossed into the air by the hands of a pastry chef. Each arm is comprised of millions and millions of stars, blinking and casting light toward Hubble’s lenses, also sending radio waves and invisible light, as it’s nuclear furnace burns at rates and temperatures unimaginable.
When Ezekiel saw the moving four wheels of God’s chariot, he mentioned that they had eyes embedded within the gyroscopic wheel structure. Like Hubble, he also noticed that the Cherubim were burning and casting light.
Ezekiel 1:11-13 KJV Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. (12) And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went. (13) As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
Ezekiel 1:18-19 KJV As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four. (19) And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.
Upon reading Ezekiel 1 and 10, the wheel of heaven insists that we use our combined Bible and Astrophysics knowledge to determine what God wishes to show us in the symbolism of these passages:
- The Spirit of God is in the middle of the wheel, directing it, motivating it, fueling it, and flowing within it like the theorized dark energy of the black hole. The Angelic host progressively spins outward from the inward four Cherubim, participating in illuminating humanity. As we know, Angels are a higher order of created being than man, endowed with wisdom, yet centered about and below Jesus Christ (Psalm 8:3-6). Yet God has given dominion to man over the material domain of earth, even delegating judgment of Angels to those who enter His kingdom through faith (the 2 verity’s of born again John 3:3-5, 1 Corinthians 6:3).
- The four creatures face four directions and do not twist or turn their heads when the Spirit of God moves them. It’s as if they are levitating, seeing and scanning all dimensions simultaneously, as the gyroscopic structure of their wheels symbolize, perpetually rotating and casting light. These are the guardian anchors of the chariot, interwoven with the veil of wings that conceal the ONE who sits on the throne. Location and direction of movement can only be determined from a constant immovable reference point. That point is the center of the wheel, where the Spirit of God functions as an active intelligent hub, much like the mysteryious black hole of a galaxy. The center of the wheel lives and exists to give the reference point to all movements, locations, and directions to the light the divine chariot will cast out. The Cherubic creatures are not horses, but they are harnessed as trans-axles to the chariot that move straight and without hesitation in perfect harmonized synchronization.
- Eyes in the wheel indicate truth, wisdom, knowledge, light, foreknowledge, and God’s all seeing omniscience. A Nazar (netser, Nazareth, watcher or branch, Isaiah 11:1-2, Jeremiah 31:6) is one given an eye of light from the turning wheel, a prophet chosen to expound truth and reveal God at the appointed time.
- The wheel turns, marking appointed times of God’s appearing, revelation, and intervention in earthly affairs. It also turns to the seasons of our human trials, festivals, and victories, much like the ticking second hand of a mechanical watch. The wheel is a calendar of Divine participation, lifting the chariot above the circle of the earth at key moments in human affairs. This chariot of fire was prominent at Sinai, delivering the Law in an ordered fashion to Israel and Moses, speaking through the ministering spirits assigned to illuminate God’s human creation (Psalm 68:17, 104:4, Acts 7:53, Galatians 3:19).
When Ezekiel saw the spinning wheels of heaven, his vocabulary was strained to describe the vision. Further, our English translators from 1611AD were just as taxed to imagine the vision when translating the Hebrew into English. As we know now, the Hubble Telescope imagery does a far better job of visually explaining the unique features of the chariot vision Ezekiel saw in his trance.
Finally, it is interesting that an older prophet of Israel saw the same Divine chariot as it emerged from the atmosphere like a flying saucer, uncloaking itself to the visible light spectrum. That man was Elisha, stunned by God at the Jordan river. Upon waiting for his mentor Elijah to be taken up to heaven, Elisha saw the chariot of fire in what can only be described as a vision foreshadowing the rapture of the Church.
2 Kings 2:11-12 KJV And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared
a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted [separated] them both asunder [apart]; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind [storm] into heaven. (12) And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen [drivers] thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
Why is the vision of the wheel of heaven important? What does it communicate to the Church? Simply this: that the center of the wheel is the agape love, the holiness that exists within God, the fuel that burns bright. It is the source of the light, higher than the Angels, imparted to mankind as both Law and Blessing. It will one day culminate in the twinkling of an eye, a chariot that every eye shall see in the star field. Sadly, only a few will have tickets to board the Divine Chariot. The wheel of heaven still turns patiently toward the godly Christian, signaling that it is time to gather the harvestable elect from the four corners of the earth (Matthew 13:41, 49). Like Elijah experienced, a rushing mighty fire storm, magnitudes stronger than a hurricane, swirling from Divine fire, will carry the authentic Christians upward into the incredible vision that only Ezekiel was able to describe in writing.
